About Afterclass
Who makes this site?
Afterclass is published by Nocti Pool, a subscription DJ pool: a catalog of ready-to-play tracks for DJs, with the BPM, key and energy of every track. The guides are written by the team that runs that catalog.
We say it at the top of every page, and we'll say it again here: Afterclass is not an independent comparison. The examples come from our catalog, the links go to our track pages, and we don't talk about other pools. If you're comparing several services, the checklist in our DJ pool guide applies to all of them, ours included.
Why this site?
Because a lot of DJ advice gets copied from site to site without anyone checking it. We're lucky enough to have thousands of analyzed tracks at hand: we might as well use them to give measured answers, with examples you can listen to.
Where do the numbers come from?
Every track published on Nocti Pool goes through an automatic analysis of the audio file, which measures its tempo, detects its key and estimates its energy on a scale of 1 to 5. The pages on this site are built from those measurements.
Like any software, the analysis sometimes gets it wrong. The most common errors, like a tempo read at double or half, are corrected in the stats and explained in the BPM by genre guide.
